Jonathan (ICEY) has received two letters of encouragement regarding the creation of a Children's Peace Forest in the DMZ.  One is from the Prime Minister of Canada and one from Prime Minister Julia Gillard of Australia.  Prime Minister Gilliard wrote that she hopes that "Your idea for a Children's Peace Forest is ambitious one and I do hope that one day becomes a reality when peace is realised on the Korean peninsula."

International Cooperation of Environmental Youth (I.C.E.Y.)

I.C.E.Y is an international youth environmental organization that provides educational activities and tools to young people around the world with the goal of preserving our environment.  I.C.E.Y. will seek to work with various government and civic organizations as well as other environmental groups in an effort to promote humanitarian environmentalism. I.C.E.Y. believes early environmental education is critical for raising young eco-heroes for current and future generations.

I.C.E.Y.'s Mission is to educate today’s youth toward a greater understanding of how to:

  • Promote and Practice Renewable Energy
  • Promote Healthy Nutritional Habits and Organic Foods
  • Research the Causes and Effects of Climate Change and Pollution

 President Kim Dae-jung

The initial I.C.E.Y. Honorary Board Member is President Kim Dae-jung, 2000 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.  His widow, Lee Hee-ho will serve as his representative. President Kim met with the Youth Ambassador for I.C.E.Y. – H.O.P.E., Jonathan Lee and expressed to him that the 21st century’s most critical issues would be the environment and climate change.  He also stated that getting youth involved in helping the environment would be the hope for the future. 

On October 27, 2009, Lee Hee-ho said, “I am honored to serve as the initial honorary board member, representing President Kim Dae-jung.  I agree with I.C.E.Y that is it important for the youth of today to protect the environment from further harm and to help prevent extreme climate change.”
