Olympic Team Halts Push
 for Joint March

August 6, 2008.  South Korea's Olympic team said Wednesday it had done all it could to push for a joint march with North Korea in Friday's opening ceremony of the Beijing Games.

``There's nothing more we can do,'' Lee Yun-taek, the team leader and chairman of the Korea Sports Council, said after the South Korean delegation entered the Athletes' Village in Beijing.

North Korea's unwillingness to march with South Korea in Beijing apparently stems from strained bilateral ties. Pyongyang has refused to cooperate in investigating last month's shooting death of a South Korean tourist in the Mount Geumgang area.

China Misunderstood Worldwide

BEIJING― August 7, 2008. China is one of the most misunderstood countries in the world, and it's China's fault in many ways.

China needs to empower its people more by giving them more rights, tackling corruption by officials who don't serve the people, allowing more media freedom, and respecting universal human rights nationwide, not just in big cities but also in remote rural areas. Foreign countries, however, need to change their attitudes toward China as the Middle Kingdom goes through changes.
